Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and assist crew members in completing daily routines and tasks according to established checklists and as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Tree/Shrub Section Grower to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on schedule; delegate tasks as needed.
- Serve as a point of contact and provide leadership in the absence of the Section Grower.
- Conduct twice-daily walkthroughs of shrub houses, mats, and tree areas to monitor plant health and growing conditions.
- Check all trees and shrubs for proper moisture levels and water as needed.
- Remove dead or unhealthy plant material from greenhouses, record and report disposals, and transport material to the compost pile.
- Observe and report signs of insect or disease issues to the Department Manager and assist with treatment as directed.
- Ensure all potting is completed correctly, including proper planting depth, fertilization, labeling, and placement in designated locations.
- Verify that all salable plants are accurately tagged with the correct price, name, and code.
- Support the ongoing learning and development of team members in collaboration with the Section Grower.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Successful completion of on-the-job training.
- Previous nursery or horticultural experience preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of trees and shrubs, including proper maintenance and care techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Familiarity with company products, services, and customer-related policies is a plus.
- Ability to stand, walk, stretch, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and pull for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
- Consistent and dependable attendance record.
- Ability to follow and help enforce company policies and procedures.
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
