Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant will assist with the preparation of financial reports to track organizational assets,
liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. The position will also work with
other organizations as a technical assistant with guidance from management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Staff oversight to assist with questions and accounting related issues.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare financial reports and monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
for for-profit and non-profit organizations. This includes preparation of supplemental reports/pages such
as memorandums, notes to financial statements, and schedules of financial statements.
Update and maintain general ledger and other financial schedules including but not limited to adjusting
journal entries.
Ensures a sound system of internal assurances and controls for each area. Ensures the proper
billing/charging of accounts and provides professional, prompt, and courteous service to clients
by resolving financial problems on an individual basis. All business transactions are reasonable,
appropriate, and necessary.
Ensures security of electronic transactions/emails received and sent by following procedures for
proper controls and timely deposits/disbursements with accurate reports. This includes
responding to and working with internal management/staff and third-party requests. All
requesting should have a response within 48 business hours.
Oversight of contracts, staff guidance, contract compliance, and client consultation are required.
Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments
are recorded to the appropriate accounts. Preparation of budget and spreadsheets to show walk-thru
completion of work.
Completes scope of work necessary based on contract/engagement letters executed.
Completion of metrics and project reports, including list of issues, project updates, and status
prompt management. Provide technical assistance to staff, clients and external grantees/sub-
recipients on all engagements.
Assist clients and other team members with assigned tasks which include, but not limited to reviewing
invoices, verification of payments, setting up of new accounts, reconciliations, close of monthly
financials, developing policies and processes, understanding financial statements, assist with preparing
compilations, reviews, and audited financial statements.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
(GAAP), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices,
terminology and applied bases of accounting and non-profit consulting.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of general financial accounting and non-profit accounting.
Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
Knowledge or understanding of QuickBooks and other accounting/billing software such as bill.com,
ShareFile, etc.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance required.
Five years minimum in accounting experience required.
Must have current public accounting experience familiar with bill.com and SharePoint previously worked in non profit
