The Opportunity

This position is well-suited to an engineer who enjoys applying design skills across the full production process, from CAD modeling and CNC layout to packaging testing and practical shop-floor execution.

The Packaging Engineer will work on real products with real performance expectations, contributing to the design and construction of protective packaging using foam, plywood, corrugated board, and related materials. The role blends technical precision with hands-on implementation and occasional coordination with customers, making it ideal for someone who is comfortable transitioning between software, tools, and collaborative environments.

Success in this position requires dependability, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset. The engineer will work closely with team members across departments to support production outcomes, enhance customer satisfaction, and contribute to process efficiency as the company continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom packaging solutions using foam, wood, and corrugated materials

  • Operate and troubleshoot 3-axis CNC equipment and associated production tools

  • Apply CAD software, including AutoCAD, IRONCAD, and Adobe Illustrator to create production-ready designs

  • Interpret and apply nominal and actual dimensions in both metric and imperial units

  • Create and maintain clear work instructions and documentation

  • Utilize measuring instruments and assist with shop-floor troubleshooting as needed

  • Collaborate across teams to improve production workflows and fulfill customer requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field

  • At least two years of packaging design or manufacturing experience preferred

  • Proficiency in CAD software and experience with multi-axis layout tools

  • Familiarity with 3-axis CNC operation and 3D printer software

  • Strong understanding of packaging tolerances and material behavior, particularly with foam, plywood, and cardboard

  • Experience conducting packaging material tests and using mechanical measuring tools

  • Effective time management, communication, and documentation skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a cross-functional setting with a customer-focused approach

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook

What Makes This a Good Fit

Freight Crafters is a stable and growing business that values quality, consistency, and professionalism. This position offers:

  • A hands-on role that combines engineering design, testing, customer interaction, and real-time production input

  • Exposure to a variety of materials and design challenges with direct application to daily operations

  • Opportunities to build broad technical skills and contribute to continuous improvement across the organization

  • A supportive team environment that respects precision, responsibility, and reliability

This is a meaningful opportunity for an engineer who wants to apply their skills in a practical setting and take pride in well-executed, high-quality work.
