Job Description
Position: Music Teacher

Primary Function:
Subject teachers are considered to be knowledgeable in their subject and are responsible for developing, planning, and teaching their programs.

All employees are subject to the requirements of the Employee Handbook. In addition, all teachers are required to teach the curriculum outlined in their grade-specific scope and sequence, available upon request.

Specific Responsibilities and Skills for Music:

Teach Music classes for grades K–8.
Teach and lead Middle School Choir for grades 6–8.
Teach Music Ensemble (as an alternative to Middle School Orchestra) for grades 6–8.
Collaborate with other faculty to work on festivals throughout the year.
Plan two concerts—one each semester.
Basic piano skills
Knowledge of and preferably training in Orff Music
Recorder skills and willingness to learn pentatonic flute

Salary is scaled based on experience and education.

Job Responsibilities

Classroom Responsibilities and Duties:

Prepare and teach subject curriculum, guided by the principles of Waldorf education.
Develop and maintain a safe, harmonious social environment for the students.
Provide regular communication to class teachers about curriculum, student performance, and unusual incidents.
Begin and end classes on time to support the daily schedule.
Participate in recess coverage for grades 1–8.
Attend class/parent meetings to explain subject curriculum, answer parent questions, and foster familiarity between parents and subject teachers.
Be available for parent-teacher conferences.
Arrange and participate in conference(s) with parent and support faculty members, as needed, to discuss student academic or disciplinary concerns.
Document observations of each student related to successes and challenges of presented curriculum.
Complete mid-year and end-of-year reports covering student’s progress in subject class.
Submit reports by assigned deadlines.

Additional Responsibilities:

Maintaining and striving for an openness to understand Waldorf education and child development.
Attendance and participation in weekly faculty meetings and in-service workshops.
Attendance and participation in weekly section meetings.
Service on at least one (1) faculty committee. First year teachers may be exempt from this requirement.
Attendance/assistance at major all-school activities.
Attendance at all-school meetings as indicated by administration.
Willingness to participate in the enrollment process of new students
Participation in the design and execution of an individualized plan for professional development.
Attendance at Waldorf education summer training as identified as appropriate by the Director of Education.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education or a related field
1–2 years previous classroom experience
Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf education
Commitment to equitable practices

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited university in Education or a related field
Have completed, or interest in Waldorf Certification
