LOCATION: NRA Headquarters, onsite, M-F, Full-time
SUMMARY: Develop, manage and maintain Museum databases and records, with emphasis on recording and tracking artifacts. Maintain library and non-firearms inventories. Assist in maintenance of firearms inventory. Provide clerical support for gun collector programs and other museum programs. Assist senior Museum staff.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist, as directed, in inventory of firearms and confirmation and updating of existing records. Assist, as directed, in selecting, adapting and implementing a new firearms inventory record system. Integrate, within divisional guidelines, inventory photos with new system. Adapt new system for museum signage and website in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain firearms records, including updates, gifts, loans, other acquisitions and deaccession in an accurate and timely manner.
2. Primary responsibility for non-firearms artifacts, including organizing, storage, and record keeping in an accurate and timely manner. Organize and manage deaccession of unneeded artifacts in an accurate and timely manner.
3. Responsible, within divisional guidelines, for Museum Library to include, but not be limited to the following tasks: organize library; develop and maintain inventory of books and other library materials; and oversee researchers and maintain library collection.
4. Provide, as directed, clerical and other support for gun collector programs and other Museum programs, including: pre-meeting mailings, registration tracking and servicing, ordering awards and pins, prepare and ship awards, compile and maintain record of awards, and update and maintain list of affiliated collecting clubs, in an accurate and timely manner.
5. Support, as directed, senior Museum staff in the following tasks, including but not limited to: manage primary Museum email account; compile and maintain visitor records from guestbooks, surveys and other sources; manage and maintain Museum email list; proofread Museum publications; assist with handling, packing and shipping firearms and other material; handle information requests; conduct tours; and assist in exhibit maintenance.
8. Assist, as directed, in maintenance of museum exhibits and signage.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
SCOPE: High visibility and coordination with NRA members, NRA staff, gun collectors, museum donors, other institutions, NRA Board of Director members and the general public. Ability to repeatedly lift 20 lbs. and push/pull a cart of 50 lbs. Position requires the ability to climb ladders in the maintenance of the museum, library and archives. Position functions in a fast-paced work environment with minimal direct supervision. Agility and physical flexibility to work, over extended time periods, in very tight/constraining spaces for exhibit installation and maintenance preferred. Occasional travel, weekend work and after-hours work required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in detailed work with database and inventory required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABIILTIES: Proven ability to focus on detailed record keeping work required. Demonstrated advanced ability with database entry and management required. Excellent organizational, writing, grammar, spelling and writing skills required. Proven ability to follow directions without constant supervision essential. Reliable and dedicated worker enthusiastic about NRA Museum mission essential. Demonstrated ability to work closely with others as part of a team. Basic firearms knowledge helpful, with advanced knowledge a strong plus. Demonstrated ability with inventory management highly desirable. Website, social media and internet skills, coupled with photography skills extremely helpful.
