Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Clermont College Science and Health Department seeks applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology.

 

A Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati is expected to primarily teach undergraduate classes to support the University of Cincinnati’s mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff, and activities. Faculty responsibilities for this position include teaching face to face lecture and laboratory courses for anatomy and physiology. Candidates must provide evidence of college-level teaching experience (graduate teaching assistant, adjunct, or full-time faculty experience). Teaching load will consist of at least two sections of anatomy and physiology per semester and other classes as needed. The position is for one (1) year only, beginning on August 15, 2025.

Essential Functions

Teaching traditional face to face for twelve (12) credit-hours in each of two primary semesters (Fall and Spring), including lectures and labs during day, and possibly evenings as needed. Teaching is the primary appointment; 80% of your time at minimum will be spent on teaching and its related activities such as:

 

  • Preparing supplemental materials to enhance student learning in lecture and lab,
  • Conducting assessments and evaluating student work,
  • Developing and assessing course and program curriculum,
  • Acting as an informal student adviser and mentor.

 

Coursework taught will focus on anatomy and physiology, but may include other courses taught in the Biology area of the department;

 

  • Scheduling and maintaining routine office hours each week;
  • Participating in ongoing professional development;
  • Participating in service to the department, college, university, and community;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the date of appointment, the following are required:

 

  • A master's or doctorate in biology, MD, or a terminal degree in a closely related field (e.g., veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy)
  • Prior college-level teaching experience in human anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high academic standards while encouraging and supporting students with differing backgrounds, interests, and aptitudes.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and professional development

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • At least one (1) year of college-level anatomy and physiology lecture and laboratory teaching experience (or the equivalent in part-time)
  • Experience in teaching a broad base of biology courses, with proficiency in using innovative instructional technologies and techniques,
  • At least two (2) years teaching biology in an institution where students have varied interests, degrees of preparation, and aptitude in an open-access educational environment.
