About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):

The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.

About the Indiana State Personnel Department (INSPD):

Role Overview : 

The Indiana State Personnel Department (INSPD) is seeking a Workforce Strategy & Performance Intern to join our agency in summer 2026. The intern will support a variety of projects, including, but not limited to, developing a consistent library of skills, creating an expanded interview question library, developing skills-based toolkits for hiring managers, and recommending approaches to attract and develop talent. Further, the intern will work closely with the Director and team to learn about talent management strategies and managing division operations.

Salary Statement : 

The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.

A Day in the Life: 

As an INSPD intern, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience with: 

• Researching and developing a consistent library of skills and Credentials of Value
• Creating an expanded interview question library for technical and soft skill assessment
• Researching and updating job descriptions for environmental and natural resources roles
• Supporting the research and development of a career path for the healthcare job series
• Creating a skills-based talent management toolkit for at least 2 roles
• Researching and recommending how the State can leverage alternative pathways for talent attraction and development

What You’ll Need for Success:

The following skills and abilities will help you gain the most from this experience:

• Basic knowledge of human resources practices related to: job descriptions, performance management, career development, and/or adult learning
• Microsoft Word skills for creating and updating documents
• Ability to research, analyze, categorize, and clarify information
• Ability to develop recommendations that address gaps and opportunities
• Ability to navigate and learn how to use technology, including AI tools
• Ability to follow job aids/guides
• Ability to identify relevant information using existing resources
• Ability to collect & incorporate feedback
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders via email, virtual meeting, phone, and in person

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
