Duties

Key Responsibilities:

Operate within multiple forensic disciplines such as:

Crime scene investigation
Lab processing of items of evidence
Latent print analysis
NIBIN test fire entry and analysis

Collaborate closely with detectives, officers, and other units within the department
Maintain accurate reports, logs, and chain of custody documentation
Participate in continuing education and cross-training within the unit
Support community-focused forensic services in a team-based environment

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Associate’s degree or equivalent in Forensic Science or related field.

Experience:

1-2 years experience in same or similar previous positions.

Physical Demands:

Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License required upon hire.
Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire.
Automated Fingerprint Information System 10 Print Certification & Automated Fingerprint Information System Latent Print Certification within one year of hire.
NIBIN entry and correlation certification within 18 months of hire.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:

Associate degree (or higher) in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Photography, or a related field
OR multiple years of hands-on forensic experience processing crime scenes or comparisons of latent prints
Valid driver's license
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Willingness to work in physically demanding, messy, and sometimes unpleasant environments (e.g., outdoor crime scenes, biological hazards, odors, extreme temperatures)
Willingness to be part of an on-call rotation for 24/7 coverage
